An alternator.

The alternator is a small generator in your Ford that produces electrical power for your car’s systems and devices. It’s a relatively simple component, but time and wear can cause it to fail. A damaged alternator will cause serious problems for your car, including starting problems and a dead battery. These are some signs that it’s time to visit your Ford dealer for an alternator repair.

Slow Accessories

When your alternator is working correctly, it produces more than enough power for all your car’s systems. When an alternator gets older, it begins to slow down. Its worn components have greater difficulty in producing electricity to the same level that they once did. This process is gradual, but it will become noticeable when the alternator can’t supply all of your car’s electrical demands.

Usually, the first signs you’ll see of this problem are accessories that operate slower than they should or suddenly stop. A sunroof that freezes while it’s closing or a radio that switches off is a potential sign that your alternator is failing. If these problems aren’t investigated, they will get worse. Our technicians can test your alternator and install a new one if the old one is failing.

Good brakes are vital for the safety of you and your car. They give you complete control over your car’s speed and enable you to stop when and where you want to. Like any other mechanical system, your brakes are subject to wear and tear. In time, you’ll need a brake repair, and your Ford dealer can provide it. We’d like to tell you about some of the signs that your brakes need some work.

An image of an auto repair technician working on the breaks of a car.

Vibrations When You Brake

When you apply the brakes, hydraulic pressure from the brake fluid forces the brake calipers to close against the wheel rotors. The pads inside the calipers generate friction against the rotors, which stops your car. The rotors are the flat smooth discs attached behind your wheels. Their flat surfaces provide the most efficient surface for braking.

The friction material is attached to the pads by a strong adhesive. When your brakes heat up, some of this adhesive can liquify. Liquified adhesive can smear across the rotor surface, where it dries quickly in the heat. The dried adhesive, however, will produce uneven sections on the rotor. If the brake calipers clamp against these uneven sections, you’ll feel vibrations.
