Circleville, OH is a charming little town with a friendly community spirit and plenty of attractive buildings, peaceful parks, and welcoming mom-and-pop stores. With the glistening waters of the Scioto River running past and a few lovely nearby lakes, there are some terrific fishing spots in and around town. Here are four of the best of them.

A fisherman.

A.W. Marion State Park

The residents of Circleville are fortunate to have a fantastic state park right beside town. The beautiful Hargus Lake in the center of the park offers many terrific spots to unfold your chair and cast your fishing line. The lake is well-stocked with bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass: all the fish an avid angler could wish for. You can fish from one of the peaceful banks or take a boat out onto the lake to fish from the water.

The park is very well-kept and full of other fun things to do, with plenty of benches, picnic tables, hiking trails, campsites, and attractive natural scenery. It’s located at 7317 Warner-Huffer Road, Circleville, a few miles to the northeast of town. You can enjoy the short drive there in your brand-new 2024 Ford Mustang GT Premium. Use your Mustang’s Voice-Activated Navigation with Pinch-to-Zoom Capability to effortlessly find the park and lake.

Elmon Richards Scioto River Fishing Access

On the western side of town, you can take advantage of the picturesque Scioto River at the Elmon Richards Scioto River Fishing Access. It’s a lovely natural spot right on Circleville’s doorstep, with a quiet stretch of riverbank to settle for some great fishing. In the river, you’ll find all kinds of catch, including channel catfish, bullhead catfish, flathead catfish, smallmouth bass, and crappies.

The area is nicely maintained and is rarely crowded. You’re likely to enjoy total peace and quiet for a few hours as you fish, especially if you go there after dark. Find this nearby angling spot at J22R+9W.

Canal Park – Pickaway County Park District

A couple of miles further to the west brings you to this popular local park that has an abundance of fun things to do, including strolls beside the river, bird watching, hunting, trapping, and fishing. You’re likely to see plenty of wildlife as you relax beside the water in this peaceful, historic park. You can find it at 23352 Canal Road.

Kinnikinnick Wildlife Area

A short drive to the south of town brings you to a secluded forested wildlife area that offers some excellent fishing on the river or creek. Here, you can fish for catfish, bluegill, crappies, and many other species.

You’re likely to see a variety of waterfowl flapping or paddling past, including mallards, swans, geese, and wood ducks. In this neck of the woods, attentive bird watchers might even catch sight of a bald eagle or two. You can find the wildlife area on Orr Road, U.S. Route 23, on the way to neighboring Chillicothe.
