1. Go Paddling, Boating, Fishing, and Camping in A.W. Marion State Park

Spend a few peaceful hours fishing, paddling, and boating on the scenic 145-acre Hargus Lake, surrounded by rolling woodlands in the A.W. Marion State Park at 7519 Warner-Huffer Road in Circleville. The lake is well known as one of the state’s best fishing holes and is annually stocked by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Find the ideal fishing spot along the Hagus Lake Trail that circles the lake, or head to the marina that offers boat rentals and wet your hook for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. Stay over for a few nights in the park’s pet-friendly campground with electric and non-electric campsites near restrooms, flush toilets, and a camp store.

2. Enjoy Hiking and Birding in Canal Park

Canal Park at 23352 Canal Road in Circleville spreads 16 acres along the banks of the scenic Scioto River, where over 70 bird species, including an array of waterfowl, nesting, and migrating birds, have been recorded. Put on your hiking boots and follow the 2.7 Towpath Trail, a grassed route along the river and the historic 1800s Ohio-Erie Canal through woodlands, past wetlands, farm fields, and a rock quarry to catch glimpses of ospreys and eagles.

Head down the short Wetland Trail along the river banks that connect the Towpath Trail to the Pickaway Trail and follow the path to the 2.5-mile Richards River Trail. This grassed path follows the river and winds past a picturesque lake where you’ll spot plenty of bird and animal life and enjoy the spectacular river and wetland views.

3. Play a Round of Golf on the Picaway Golf Course

Tee off at the 18-hole Picaway Golf Course at 1399 Stoutsville Pike in Circleville. Picaway Golf Course, maintained to United States Golf Association standards, has excellent greens, well-defined fairways, and roughs and features 6385 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72, with a course rating of 70.8 and a slope rating of 131.
