How To Activate Adaptive Headlights

This technology can work any time you’re driving over 3 mph. To turn Adaptive Headlights on, go to Settings in the SYNC system on your instrument panel. Select Vehicle and scroll down until you see Lighting. Select this, and then use the Adaptive Headlights toggle to activate the system. Your headlights will now turn in the same direction as the steering wheel. 

How the Technology Works

Sophisticated sensors and a connection to your steering wheel tell the headlights when your car is turning and the precise degree of the turning angle. It also takes other factors into consideration, such as vehicle speed and road conditions; GPS and other location info help with this. Using all this data, the headlights swivel at just the right angle to keep your visibility maximized. 

Tips for Handling Curves at Night

For optimal safety when tackling curves after dark or in any low-light condition, always slow down when approaching a curve. React calmly and appropriately to any suddenly appearing hazard, without oversteering. If another car is coming from the opposite direction, avoid looking directly into its headlights in case they neglect to lower their high beams; a good trick to help with this is to focus instead on the white road markings ahead.

Combine Adaptive Lights With Auto High Beams

Another important safety feature in your Ford is Auto High Beams. This feature allows your car to detect oncoming cars and then automatically lower your high beam headlights to avoid blinding the other driver before switching them back on once the car has passed. For optimal safety, it’s advisable to have both of these highly effective safety features activated whenever road visibility is lessened.
